Our approach to Responsibility
Vifor Pharma aims to have a positive impact on its stakeholders and the communities it operates in. We therefore recognise and actively manage our economic, social and environmental responsibilities, and believe this will contribute to a more sustainable business.
The 5-pillar model
A new corporate responsibility structure was introduced in 2017. The ‘5-pillar model’ enables Vifor Pharma to take a holistic approach to its responsibilities towards society, the environment and stakeholders. At the same time, it provides for a lean, clear and efficient approach to meeting the company’s corporate responsibilities and to contributing to the overall company strategy.
Within each of the pillars, two specific focus areas were identified to provide guidance on our particular and current emphases related to corporate responsibility. Each of the focus areas are intended to contribute to a more sustainable business.

The model offers a fit-for-purpose structure applicable to the whole company. It enables the linkage of internal work streams and panels, dealing with corporate responsibility topics. It also simplifies the collection of information and annual reporting on achievements and activities.
Managing our responsibilities
While the Board of Directors is responsible for strategic decisions related to corporate responsibility, the Executive Committee of Vifor Pharma decides on any larger investments related to corporate responsibility measures.
In 2017, an interdisciplinary steering committee was formed to oversee and coordinate Vifor Pharma’s corporate responsibility operations and activities, together with the publication of related information and data. The ‘Responsibility Committee’ consists of senior management and has a direct link to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. The Committee defines the focus areas for each pillar, drives and monitors developments and supervises the annual ‘Responsibility Highlights Report’.
At the same time, a network consisting of local champions in each of Vifor Pharma Group’s national affiliates and production sites is in place. The members of the ‘Responsibility Ambassadors Network’ were appointed by their respective General Manager or Head of production site. They receive regular training and are responsible for embedding corporate responsibility principles in their local organisation and collecting information on local activities and achievements.
